Highlights From CIPO's 2021–2022 Annual Report

The Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) has released its latest annual report, which was tabled in Parliament on June 13, 2023.

The report outlines some of CIPO’s highlights from the 2021–22 fiscal year.

For example:

CIPO continued to focus on improving service delivery.

To address a growing inventory of trademark applications and reduce turnaround times, CIPO implemented a recovery plan to increase productivity and improve pendency at all stages of the registration process.

CIPO also became, in April 2021, one of the first IP offices in the world to issue entirely electronic patent certificates.

CIPO also created the IP Village, an initiative to help Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises better understand, utilize and leverage IP.
